14.10.17: Comrades at the Vasco de Quiroga Normalista (Student Teachers) School have been brutally repressed while preparing activities to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the repression that took place at their school on October 15th, 2012. A student was detained, and when the Normalistas demanded their release the police assaulted and fired shots at them. 74 students were then detained.
As part of the attacks against the public education system, the rural Normalista schools that have historically trained rural teachers are being systematically attacked and the students are gradually being disappeared by the federal government.
Statement from ONOEM:
The Organization of Normalista Officials for the State of Michoacán (ONOEM) denounces the use of military elements against our comrades by the state, it is worth noting that there were also comrades present from the Rural Normalista School of Raúl Isidro Burgos de Ayotzinapa. We hold the corrupt government of Silvano Aureoles and Carlos Gomez Arrieta, Under Secretary of Public Security for physical and psychological damages that have been caused to our comrades.
“It is true that they struck us, but we we are not defeated”
“ONOEM continue in struggle”
The student committee of Tiripetío stated:
To the general public:
As we were making preparations for the march to commemorate the repression on October 15, 2012 at our Normalista school, the state government headed by Silvano Aureoles Conejo ordered repression against us, first by arresting a fellow student. We went to the PGJE (Prosecutor General for State Justice) headquarters to demand their release and the SSP (Public Security Police) responded with brutal repression and detained more than 70 comrades.
